Have you heard of Kiwi Experience? We wouldn’t be surprised if you have, especially if a trip to New Zealand is on your travel wish list. At a basic level, it’s a hop-on hop-off bus that can take you all over New Zealand, from hard to reach spots to party hubs, and help you meet like minded travellers on your journey.

But Kiwi Experience is more than that. In their own words, “We know when to stop the bus and soak it in, and when to keep on driving and leave the tourist traps behind. We’ll show you New Zealand’s big highlights, and incredible places so hidden even Peter Jackson couldn’t find them.” What’s even better is your pass is valid for a whole 12 months. Which pretty much means you have 12 months to explore every inch of New Zealand at a bargain price!

At the heart of Kiwi Experience are their amazing driver guides who are passionate about sharing the best of New Zealand with you. We asked one of them to spill the beans on their top tips for New Zealand travel, their favourite overnight stops and what where to find the best pies. That’s right, we ask the right questions.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Meeting new people! I love meeting people from all over the world and seeing their reactions when they see our beautiful countryside or do one of our incredible activities. Their smiles make it all worthwhile.

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED DRIVING FOR KIWI?

I have had a host of different jobs but most notably just before Kiwi Experience I worked with the awesome cats at AJ Hackett Bungy in Queenstown.

IF YOU HAD TO PICK 3 HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE ROUTES, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

Tamaki Overnight Marae Stay, Nevis Bungy Queenstown and Ice Explorer Franz Josef.

WHAT MAKES NEW ZEALAND DIFFERENT?

We have the best of everything (not biased at all). Awesome beaches, snow peaked mountains, amazing culture, laid back people, easy to travel landscape, uncrowded cities, towns and roads any activity you could think of. What can’t you do in NZ?

Just one of Kiwi Experience’s brilliant route options.

WHAT MAKES KIWI EXPERIENCE DIFFERENT?

Our legacy. Since we have the longest history in NZ we have great relationships with hostels and activity providers, which means as a passenger you will always come first and get the best possible backpacker service. Our numbers speak for themselves and our passengers have the trip of a lifetime when they travel with us making new best friends along the way.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE STOP IN NZ?

Queenstown for sure. Its beauty, its class, its people and excitement. So many activities to choose. From high adrenaline, to total relaxation, Queenstown has something for everybody. That matched with some of the most epic scenery you will see in the world!! It is a very hard place to beat.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE OVERNIGHT?

Tamaki Overnight Maori Stay near Rotorua on the North Island. The experience, the food, the hot tubs, all make it such an awesome night and our passengers really get a chance to get involved in Maori culture. Plus the food. Did I mention the food? It’s all you can eat.

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU ON A TRIP?

Healthy snacks! You need to stay in top form while travelling. There’s nothing worse than getting sick on the trip of a lifetime.

WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST ALL CUSTOMERS TAKE WITH THEM?

A camera of course and a good attitude and an open mind. Remember this saying “It’s not wrong it’s just different.” You are mixing with cultures from all over the world. Some passengers may be extensively travelled but for others this will be their first trip away from home!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ACTIVITY?

Nevis Bungy in Queenstown for sure! Can’t get a bigger rush than jumping off something that ridiculously high!

WHERE ARE THE BEST PIES IN NZ?

Te Anau pies on the way to the beautiful Milford Sound! Ask your Driver.

Think it’s time you had a kiwi experience (haha, get it?) save 46% on hop on hop off bus passes and get amongst everything NZ has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
